Summer Fun

Beyond the Berm Episode 78: Summer FunBeyond the Berm returns with the latest episode of our podcast about Disney and more!

For this episode, we look at some of the many opportunities for summer fun that are out there. For example, you may have heard something about a Pandora addition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, or maybe a Tower of Terror retheme to Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout at Disney’s California Adventure. If you haven’t heard about those yet, then you most likely will as the Disney promotional machine ramps up in the next few weeks. Are these the sort of thing that cause you to want to make another visit to the Disney parks, or do you just plan to see them on your next visit, whenever it may be?

Also, there are several big movies coming out this summer: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Cars 3, just to name a few. Are you getting excited for what looks to be a busy summer movie season? And then there are Thor: Ragnarok and Star Wars: The Last Jedi coming later in the year, too. Almost too many interesting movies to keep up with!

We also discuss our upcoming summer plans, as Steve talks about interrupting his relaxing summer with a 4-night Disney cruise with his extended family. What might be new or different this time around? Stay tuned to find out.

Plus, some updates from Matt about the latest runDisney happenings, that Spider-Man movie that we forgot to mention earlier, and some other things to keep things interesting!

Episode 72: Catching Up

Time for another exciting episode of Beyond the Berm! Hang on to your hats and glasses!

Because it has been a little while since we have done a general podcast, instead recently focusing on our summer trips, we decided to try to catch up on all that has been going on lately, particularly in the world of Disney.

For starters, we discussed some of the recent changes, coming changes, and rumored changes at the Disney Parks. Guardians of the Galaxy at California Adventure, Muppets in the Magic Kingdom, Halloween and Christmas happenings, and some other stuff, too!

We also discussed some upcoming movies and new movie trailers, such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Strange, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Are we looking forward to them? Listen in and see.

Next up, we discussed the fall television season. While we largely focused on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we also talked about some of the other shows we have watched, how things like Netflix affect programming, and the lack of standalone episodes these days.

Episode 69: Let It Go

It’s time once again for another thrilling episode in the Beyond the Berm saga, so here we go!

To start with, Matt brings up several theme park rumors of the very juicy variety that have been popping up in the last week or two. Is Universe of Energy at Epcot going to be replaced by a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction? Are the Muppets coming to Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom? Is theme park life as we know it about to end? Well, the answer to the last one may be pretty clear, but the answer to the first two questions is a little more murky. But that doesn’t stop us from talking about them. Hear what we have to say!

Beyond the Berm Episode 69 - Let It Go

During the show, we also discuss some upcoming and recent movies, many of which are either sequels or reboots. Finding Dory, the just announced Wreck-It Ralph sequel, the Pete’s Dragon reboot, and some others. And with some of these (looking at you, Pete’s Dragon), are they taking what we have loved and changing it entirely?

And then, with all of the rumors and reboots and such, we start to realize that the things that we have loved are either going away or have already gone. The original EPCOT Center concept, character-free lands in the Magic Kingdom, a non-fuzzy dragon named Elliot. Maybe it is time to just Let It Go, as a certain song says, whether we want to or not.

Agree? Disagree? Not sure? Listen in as we discuss all of this and more in the latest episode from Beyond the Berm!

Episode 40: A Race and a Game

Beyond the Berm roars back into action with Episode 40! Which is momentous, if you are one of those who like to celebrate 10-multiple things, I guess.

To start with, Matt gives an update on his upcoming runDisney races as things are getting closer for the upcoming Disneyland runs. His whole family is participating, and he has some updated information on their plans, as well as on his upcoming run in the Walt Disney World Marathon.

Next, Steve has a game for Matt to play, “Name That Disney Quote.” These quotes come from either Disney or Pixar animated movies, and some of them are real stumpers. See if you can guess which movies these quotes are from!

After that, we have some general chit-chat about Disney trivia, Guardians of the Galaxy, a Disney movie that ended up not being a Disney movie (“Earth to Echo”), and some other stuff, too.

Come join the fun on Episode 40 of Beyond the Berm!

Episode 32: Movies, More Movies, and MyMagic+

Beyond the Berm returns once again for Episode 32!

To start things off, Matt goes back to our discussion from Episode 31 of the Disney Channel and the availability of Disney programming, bringing up the new Disney Movies Anywhere experience that just launched. And it just happened that Steve had given Disney Movies Anywhere a try, so he fills us in about some of what it is all about. And then we talk more about physical copies versus digital copies and “owning” your media. See if you agree with us.

Steve then talks about the upcoming Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, based on the first trailer that was recently released, and also a Motley Fool article that suggests the movie might not do as well as some other Marvel movies. We compare this to other Marvel movies with either more well-known heroes or more well-known stars, and talk about how this new movie might compare to those.

Up next, Matt is learning all about MyMagic+ and FastPass+ first hand, as he is planning a family trip for this summer. Hear about what all he has learned so far. And feel free to share some tips if you have them.

We also briefly discuss the changes in the Central Plaza, or “hub,” at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, and we make a few Oscar predictions as well.
